BABI AUDI - CLUB DEAD LTD.

BABI AUDI (Melissa Gagne) is a prominent NYC-by-way-of-Montreal DJ, performance/visual artist, producer, composer and performer. Club Dead LTD. uses the club as a metaphor - it’s a place where decadence is exaggerated to represent ideas about freedom, power, luxury, sexuality etc.

“Are you scared of losing money? Are you scared of losing other people’s money?” The participatory nature of the material leaves it to the listener to make or invent connections. Often it’s as if Gagne is speaking directly to an actual yuppie club goer. Or maybe observing a policeman outside violently failing to come to terms with his latent homosexuality.

There is a hollowness inside this hyper hip capitalist lifestyle which grows anxiety and tension like mold. They’ve been robbed of their time, they’ve been robbed of their identity, and now what? The pursuit of sex becomes just another K.P.I. and graphable measurement of success. But a diet of drugs and stress guarantees the limpness of their dicks. This is not a record about turning-up but rather turning-off.
